An Earth Day Volunteering Experience

I participated in an urban farm volunteering event to celebrate and promote the principles of earth day. After waking up early, I was ready for a long day’s work. The volunteering event was about planting fruit trees at said urban farm, likely to provide both the benefit of scenery, carbon sequestering, and produce.

Now comes the actual event. Although the work was quite demanding, we all pulled through, knowing that every tree planted makes a difference to the environment, no matter how small. The short breaks further reinforced the spirit of all the volunteers, allowing us to keep working for hours to come.

About the volunteers that were there with me, well they were wonderful to say the least. I met a granny who was the funniest and most delightful person at the event. I also bonded with a person from another school, and we shared our backgrounds and varying experiences as students.

After finishing the event, I realized that the event wasn’t just about planting trees, but rather about how community service can help the environment. It also showed me how rewarding doing such service can be, accomplishing a multitude of rights at the same time.

I look forward to returning to the farm to see how the trees have grown. I have been motivated to continue participating in such events and I feel like YOU, the audience should do the same. Perhaps find some environmental volunteering events around your area to create a happier healthier world.
