April 8th was the day of the once in a lifetime total solar eclipse through Texas san Antonio. There was so much hype leading up to the event, with weeks of preparation. Sadly, during the day of the eclipse, the sky was covered in thick cloud cover, doing a better job of covering the sun than the moon ever would. We did get glimpses of the eclipse when the clouds parted or thinned which created a sense of surprise and excitement whenever we could catch a peek. The cloud cover did somewhat enhance the experience as it added a sense of uniqueness. Whether it be a curse of a blessing in disguise, the clouds during the solar eclipse certainly were unexpected.
April 22 is Earth Day, which was created to advocate for greater environmental awareness. As such, many organizations host environmentally related events on that day. I had originally signed up for a volunteering event at Burbank High School. The agenda included painting animal quarters, constructing garden beds, planting trees, and repairing a duck pond fence. However, a plot twist occurred when I realized I had an AP Mock test on the same day. I was planning to shorten my Earth Day activities to half a day, but the event was postponed to May 11 due to an incoming storm, which luckily works for me. Now, I'm excited to dive into a full day of gardening and tree planting. It's amazing how nature's surprises can unexpectedly enrich our plans!
